The laser operation for astigmatism consists of remodelling the corneal curve. The surgical techniques for astigmatism are Femtosecond Lasik, and in certain cases photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). Astigmatism is a feature of myopia or hypermetropia. The correction in the horizontal meridian is not the same as in the vertical meridian. This characteristic causes blurred vision at all distances. The surgical technique allows for treatment of astigmatism of up to 4 diopters.

The appropriate surgical technique will be discussed with your surgeon according to the specific structure of your cornea during preoperative testing. Each of the two phases lasts about 2 minutes and is completely painless.

Technology Lasik Femtosecond

The Femtosecond Lasik techniques consist of creating a thin corneal flap (phase 1). The flap is lifted and excimer laser treatment is then performed (phase 2). The curve of the cornea is modified. Femtosecond Lasik is the latest generation “all laser” technique which uses a laser for creating the corneal flap, whereas Lasik used a blade.

Technology PRK

The PRK technique consists of scraping the surface layer of the cornea (epithelium) (phase 1). Once the epithelium has been scraped, excimer laser treatment is performed (phase 2) and the curve of the cornea is modified. A protective lens is then applied and worn for 3 days.
