Clear Lens Extraction
This intraocular surgical technique consists in replacing the clear lens with an intraocular implant of the needed strength to allow clear vision without glasses. This surgical procedure derived from modern cataract surgery is performed for patients over 45 who are very nearsighted (correction of -10 to -15 D of myopia).
Phakic Intraocular Lens
This technique is used to implant an intraocular lens of the needed strength while leaving the natural lens in place. There are three types of implants: anterior, posterior and iris-supported, depending on whether they are placed in front of or behind the iris. Phakic implant lenses are used to correct extreme myopia or hyperopia.
Multiple Procedures
In some cases laser surgery (Lasik, PRK-Lasek) is combined with intraocular lenses to correct extreme cases of myopia.
